New Neighbors

It’s been six months since I’ve had neighbors. Before that there was an older guy who never made any noise. A new family moved in a few days ago with four young children. This is into a one bedroom apartment. Needless to say there have been lots of new noises to get used to. They haven’t seemed to figure out that the stairs are right next to my bedroom, even though I mentioned that when I met them. So, I’ve been awoken on more than one occasion. I’ll just say that it sucks, and leave it at that.

I’ve been kind to the new neighbors. The kids are really too cute to get mad at. I had to run over the other day to show them how to turn off the smoke detector. Apparently, the windstorm that we had recent affected the roof on their unit. It was raining badly, and the water got into the smoke detector system that is hard wired into the unit. I had this problem last year, and knew exactly what was happening. Our only problem was finding a ladder or table tall enough to reach the top of the ceiling. Finally, the we found a table, and the lady’s boyfriend climbed up on the table. I was able to tell him to pull off the wire nuts, and disconnect the detector. It was a relief to have those darn things stop. I assume that they called the landlord and got the roof taken care of.

The next night there was an incredible amount of noise coming from the hallway. I could hear the kids yelling and banging around. I wasn’t sure what was on that side of the wall until I heard scooting sounds, like they were sliding around. I was curious, so I put my head to the wall. I could hear one boy, yelling “Ewww…” and another say “Put it in the toilet. Put it in the toilet.” Apparently, all four boys were in the bathtub, and the youngest one decided to take a shit in the tub. The mom came just after I figured out what was going on. She told the boys to be quiet, then noticed the poop. She laughed, and then I laughed. I decided it was time for me to go back to my own life. I suppose the noise is fun sometimes.

Thanksgiving Recap

The last several days have been very stressful. I’ve had to do something that I can’t really afford to do, but I didn’t really have much choice. I have done everything I can do at this point, and I have to try to not worry about the issue anymore. I have to be careful not to let myself get too stressed out. I can’t afford to get sick again. So, I will entertain you with a Thanksgiving recap.

Rainy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving day was very rainy and cold. Here’s the Tacoma Dome looking all cold and wet.

Thanksgiving Turkey Cannon

Every year Ben and Mary try a new turkey cooking method. This year it was the Turkey Cannon. They gave the Turkey Cannon high marks. Apparently, it cooked the 23lb. turkey in just over 3hours.

Charcoal Yams

There was some excitement when the marshmallows covering the yams caught on fire. I just missed getting it on video. The flames started in the oven, and start to lip out when Mary opened the door. I noticed the flames next, and tried to get everyone else to notice what was going on. I suppose you had to be there, but it was pretty darn humorous. The yams were saved by scraping of the charred marshmallows, and placing some new ones on.

Thanksgiving Yams No Burn Again

We stuck them back in on a lower shelf, and monitored them just to make sure they didn’t try to catch on fire again. Overall it was a nice relaxing holiday. Hope you had a good holiday, even if it was a week ago.

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue Lakewood, WA

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is now open in Lakewood, WA. They had their grand opening on Friday, but I didn’t get a chance to stop by until today. This location looks very similar to the Renton and Federal Way locations. This location is slightly large than the Renton location, and has plenty of seating.

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue Lakewood, WA 2

The menu presents the usual fare you would expect at an L&L. I opted for a katsu musubi. I was pretty full, and decided to take the musubi home. It was hot and fresh even when I got home!

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue Lakewood, WA 3

I’m so used to L&L’s being crowded, and today it was very low key. I don’t think the cat is out of the bag yet. I’m sure it will be packed once people know that it’s open.

T-mobile Dash

T-mobile Dash

The T-mobile Dash has become my new best friend. Okay, not really, but it is pretty sweet. I’ve been looking at the pda style phones for quite sometime, but none presented all the options that I was looking for until the Dash. It’s sleek and smooth, easily fits into my pocket. It has bluetooth and wifi. The wifi option is wonderful. I love being able to look something up without waiting to get home, or call information. I love trading old toys to get new toys!

Damn iTunes! They don’t have this song available on US itunes. I think it’s pretty catchy.

Stripped Floors

Remember this room? There’s no plywood left, that’s what all the walls were, in the room. The room is drywalled, painted, and now the floors are in the process of being stripped and refinished. It appears that the floorboards are reclaimed wood of some sort, maybe cedar or possibly red fir. So, they won’t be perfect, but they have that cool distressed warehouse sort of feel. A door was picked at Second Use to fill in the hole to a storage/access area.

If You Can Guess…

Frisco Freeze Blur

More blurry places for you. If you can guess this sign, then you know your way around the Sound very well. Today, was the day of gluttony and fun. Details later..

Dreams

I had a dream last night that I was shot with a snub nose revolver by a bunch of older tweakers trying to steal packing peanuts out of my car.

* i woke up with a killer stomach ache. my mind must have decided to have fun with it.

Westport, WA

I actually have many post waiting in my head. I have the titles typed out, and the posts await content. I’ll get to them shortly. In the meantime — A fun thing to try if you live in or around Seattle.

Glassy Baby, located in Greenwood, is a great place to watch glass blowing and maybe pick up your own glassybaby. What exactly is a glassbaby, you ask. It is a small 4inch vessel that you can use as a votive, drinking cup, or anything else you can imagine. Here’s what they say:

glassybaby are useful in many ways. But their real use is lifting bad moods and loneliness. Their warm and colored light flickers like we do in everyday life. serve as a metaphor to symbolize hope and are humble in spirit but not beauty. Whatever your mood, a can keep your home inviting and full of spirit.
